With Halloween creeping around the corner once again, it’s time to get into the spooky mood and take a look at all the incredible costumes the Korean pop industry has to offer.

Whether it’s Dreamcatcher’s SuA as Hellboy, EXO’s Chanyeol as Iron Man, or THE BOYZ’s Q as Chucky, K-pop is a buffet of fun and outrageous looks this time of year as idols take to the stage for Halloweenie comebacks, head to fan meetings, and set up their livestreams to chat with followers.

There have been so many iconic looks in years gone by — whether scary, silly, or stylish — so we asked the members of the Cherry Chu team which idol costumes have been their favourites and why they love them! If you want more inspiration for an outfit of your own, check out our list of K-pop inspired Halloween costumes with a guide on how to achieve the look.

“My favourite has to be BTS's iconic Snow White "Go Go". The song itself is already such a happy pill for me as I became ARMY just after Love Yourself: Her was released so I would listen to it on repeat. The added plus of the adorable costumes and happy vibes all around from the members makes that dance practice all the more memorable.”

“Choosing a favourite idol costume is something of a Sophie’s choice in K-pop; there’s been so many standouts!

“However, whilst some honourable mentions include NCT’s Chenle as Pennywise, Dreamcatcher’s Siyeon as The Joker, and SEVENTEEN’s THE8 as Jack Skellington, the crown has to go to SHINEE’s KEY for his Ronald McDonald look in 2015. Perfectly combining creepy with hilariously silly, the look is truly iconic, and has gifted us with a viral meme that will be used for years to come.”

“My choice is also BTS related! I’m a late ARMY but whilst deep diving into the YouTube rabbit hole, these “21st Century Girl” looks were a standout from their early dance practices.

“Everything about this makes me smile; from Jin crashing into all the members to V’s puppeteering of the little plushie, and the ultimate winning formula of Jimin’s spring onion head pop-ups! It’s saved on my list whenever I need a pick-me-up. Just three minutes of pure, unadulterated joy.”

“My favourite has to be Red Velvet’s “Peek-A-Boo” stage outfits! When I think of Halloween in K-pop, that stage always comes to mind. I loved the rainbow and glitter outfits as well as the darker versions. I think it was also perfectly followed up by the “Bad Boy” outfits too, which was part of the repackaged album!”

“My favourite idol Halloween costumes have to be TWICE’s 2019 outfits that they wore at their fan meeting, ‘Once Halloween 2’. Tzuyu looked incredible as Maleficent with beautiful makeup and impressive horns. However, the standout had to be Dahyun’s genie outfit, complete with blue bald cap and beard!”

“In 2020, LOONA prepared a group VLive in which the group dressed as individual characters: my favourite Halloween costumes to this day. From Heejin as No Face (Spirited Away (2001)) to Kim Lip as a tree, the group embraced the Halloween spirit in a hilarious way and danced to some of their songs as their characters would!”
