Coming hot off the back of her last release “i’m okay”, AleXa returned on 28 June with a pop-punk sound that would make Avril Lavigne proud.

AleXa’s strong vocals never fail to stun and her signature sound is a pleasure to listen to. With “distraction” the 27 year-old singer delivers a message that is sure to resonate deeply with fans.

“‘Distraction’ is a song that talks about knowing your worth in love,” says AleXa, “a rebound is never the answer and don’t settle for what’s convenient.

“Love is a mutual thing, and if the respect isn’t there from one party, then its’s time to pack up and leave.”

In “i’m okay”, AleXa shared an ode to fans struggling with their mental health — this time, her message is no less important than the last.

With plucky guitars and its fast pace, this pop-punk break-up anthem feels like a love song to women who are worthy of more. In a society where hook-up culture seemingly spearheads the dating scene, “distraction” tells its listeners to take a step back and not settle for men who aren’t worth their time.

Showcasing explicit lyrics like: “Girl you should run / it’s a f**king mistake” and “I know the truth hurts, but he’s a piece of shit”, this track is quite rightly a big F-you to people who will string others along for fun.

“I wanted to create a song that speaks to anyone who has ever felt undervalued in a relationship,” AleXa explains. “‘distraction’ is about recognizing your worth and not allowing yourself to be anyone’s second choice.

“It’s a reminder to everyone that love is a two-way street, and you deserve someone who respects and cherishes you.”

With wise words and a sound that will make you block your situationship on socials, AleXa once again showcases her versatility and commitment to delivering tracks that resonate to her listeners on a personal level.
